International Mother Language Day (Bengali:শহীদ মিনার):
The 21th February is the International Mother Language Day. The UNESCO has announced February 21th as the International Mother Language Day to be observed globally in recognition to Bangalis’ sacrifice of blood and the sacrifices of the martyrs for establishing the rightful place for Bangla. Mother tongue is a divine gift. The most merciful Almighty has bestowed a mother tongue upon each and every caste, creed and colour. People of a country express their ideas, thoughts, feelings, emotions etc clearly through mother tongue. But then rulers of Pakistan tried to impose Urdu as the state language upon Babgali instead of Bangla. But the people of this country raised their voice against this unlawful decision. Some of the heroic sons came forward and sacrificed their glorious life for the cause of there mother tongue on the 21th February 1952.Rafique, Jabber, Salam, Barkat were shot. Since then that day is called the Shaheed Dibash. This day has got international recognition in1999 and the proclamation came in the form of a resolution unanimously adopted at the plenary of the UNESCO at its head quarters in Paris in November 1999. The sacrifices of all the martyrs for championing the cause of their mother tongue have received now a glorious recognition by the people of the world. Every year we remember this day with solemnity and pay them profound tribute. All the people of Banladesh feel proud of the martyrs for lying down their lives. Now this day is observed all over the world. So it is a matter of great glory and prestige for Bangladesh.
