The government has built 3663 primary schools in the sidr hit areas under its 2nd primary school building development programme.

This was informed to the parliamentary standing committee on primary and mass education ministry at its 17th meeting held at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban with its Chairman Alhaj Mamtaz Begum in the chair.

Germany schoolchildren donates one lakh for Bangladesh orphanage

Kaufthof, a Germany based organization, Category and Brand manager Martina Jandt donated over Taka one lakh to Darul Alam Orphanage at city's Dalipara in Uttara here.

She visited the orphanage and presented the cheque for Taka 1,11,755 on Sunday and meet with the children, said a release here today.

Martina talked with children of the orphanage while she made her visit yesterday. Kabir Ahmed, Senior Executive Director of Haque and Sons was present during the visit.

The money was collected by the German Paul Klee Gymnasium School children at the initiative of Mrs Jandt's daughter Julia and all her class friends who sold cakes at the school and went in groups from house to house requesting the German citizens that some small amount of money was needed to give to the poor orphan children in Bangladesh.

National River Fair 2011 concludes at JU

The three- day National River Fair 2011 held at Zahir Raihan Auditorium of Jahangirnagar University (JU) campus concluded today.

The Disaster Forum and Department of Geography and Environment of JU jointly organized the fair titled 'Chhoto Nodi Chhoto Noi'.

Renowned river researchers and ecologists attended the fair
and suggested a number of measures for promoting rivers.

The measures and recommendations include commitment of working together in promoting rivers and protesting the unnatural dams and pollution on rivers at any cost. The organizers decided to hold the National River Fair at JU campus every year.

New 50MW plant opens at Ashuganj

 Gas engine plant of Ashuganj Power Station Company Limited (APSCL) in Brahmanbaria.

Ashuganj Power Station Company Limited (APSCL) on Sunday lunched a new 50 megawatt gas engine plant, increasing the power generation capacity of the station to 774 MW.

It is an environment friendly plant which will not release any garbage, said Md Nurul Alam, the managing director of APSCL.

The plant is supplying power to the national grid on a trial basis and will run in full swing by the end of this month, he added, reports our Brahmanbaria correspondent.

The APSCL took the project last year to establish the plant with its own fund in a bid to mitigate the power crisis in the country, Alam said.

The company completed the Tk 306 crore project through an international tender.

TSK Group, a Spanish farm, signed the EPC (engineering procurement and construction) basis contract with APSCL on July 25 last year and started working on September 9.

The establishment of the plant was completed by 210 days accordingly. The contracted farm will provide a warranty service for one and half years. GE Janbacher Company of Austria supplied all engines while Spain and Germany supplied the other equipments for the plant.

According to APSCL, there are 16 generating units in the newly established Gas Engine Power Plant that generate 53.312 MW of electricity. Of them, 50 MW will be supplied to the national grid while the rest will be used for internal purpose of the plant.

The red circle has a radius of one fifth of the length of the flag. Its center is placed on the middle of the perpendicular drawn from the nine twentieth parts of the flag. The color in the background represents the greenery of Bangladesh while the red circle symbolizes the rising sun and the sacrifice of lives in our freedom fight.
