The construction work of Gopalganj 100 Megawatt (mw) Peaking Power Plant is expected to be completed by the end of this month, five months ahead of the schedule.
"We're planning to put the furnace oil-fired power plant under test operation by the end of this month. This plant will add 100mw electricity to the national grid that will help ease power crisis to some extent," said executive engineer of Power Development Board (PDB) Kamrul Islam.
Energypac Power Generation Limited has been setting up the 108mw power plant at a cost of Tk 774 crore at Haridaspur in Gopalganj. It was given 18 months time to complete the work of the plant.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the construction work through a Tele-conference on July 31, 2010.
"With the completion of the installation work, the national grid will get 100mw more electricity from the plant," said Energypac senior engineer Md. Ejaj Mamun.
Vice-President of Gopalganj Chamber of Commerce and Industries Mosharaf Hossain said the peaking power plant will help mitigate power crisis in Gopalganj area. He thanked Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for setting up the power plant in Gopalganj.
"This power plant will improve the power supply in Gopalganj and encourage entrepreneurs to set up new industries that will create new jobs," said Mosharaf Hossain.
