The Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) on Tuesday approved seven development projects with an outlay of Tk 60,981 crore, including a mega project in health, population and nutrition sector.
The approval was given at an ECNEC meeting held at the NEC conference room with its alternate Chairperson and Finance Minister AMA Muhith in the chair.
“Of the total project cost of Tk 60,981 crore, Tk 37,229 crore will come from the government funds, while Tk 23,752 crore in project assistance,” Planning Minister AK Khandker told reporters after the meeting. Planning Division Secretary M Monzur Hossain was present.
According to Planning Ministry sources, the government expects project assistance from some 16 development partners (DPs). Of the assistance, credit will come from World Bank and JICA, while grant from EC, DFID, SIDA, JICA, CIDA, AUSAID, USAID, WHO, UNICEF, KfW, UNFPA, GIZ, UNAIDS, GFATM and GAVI-HSS.
The government has already received an indicative DP contribution of Tk 11,515 crore, including IDA credit of Tk 2656 crore from the 16 development partners. The development objective of the programme is to improve access to and utilisation of essential health, population and nutrition services, particularly by the poor.
