Bangladesh and India will sign in Dhaka the strip maps delineating the agreed international land boundary between the two countries today, an official of the Department of Land Record and Survey told New Age.
Bangladesh high commissioner to New Delhi Tariq A Karim and the Indian high commissioner in Dhaka Rajeet Mitter would sign the maps on behalf of the two governments. The two countries have prepared strip maps of their 4,156-kilometre international border that will be useful in settling border-related disputes.
India has for the first time agreed to sign the strip maps, running about 11,000 pages, delineating most of the 4,156-kilometre international border separating the two countries, said the official.
A strip map is an unscaled drawing of a route that includes critical points along the border, usually incorporating distances, roadside features and town facilities on a simple flip-over style map.
These maps would be helpful for legally resolving any dispute related to the border with India, said a foreign ministry official.
