The Sylhet divisional stadium is all set to be awarded an international cricket venue status once it undergoes necessary upgradations to meet the standards, the State minister for youth and sports Ahad Ali Sarkar declared at a Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) meeting held in Sylhet on Friday.
The meeting was first of its kind held outside Dhaka, in the presence of finance minister Abul Mal Abdul Muhith and state minister for the youth and sports Ahad Ali Sarkar.
The state minister revealed that a Tk 36.58m project to build Sylhet divisional sports complex and another Tk 20m project for a women’s sports complex is awaiting approval of the Ecnec.
Finance minister Abul Mal Abdul Muhith addressed as the chief guest while BCB president A H M Mustafa Kamal MP presided over the meeting.
The BCB president expressed the board’s desire to upgrade the Sylhet Divisional Cricket Stadium to an international sports venue.
The Finance Minister Abul Mal Abdul Muhith in his speech said that the expectation of the people of Sylhet is going to be materialized soon and aspired that the stadium would be honored as an international cricket venue within the next year.
BCB vice president Sajjadul Alam Bobi, Sylhet City Corporation Mayor Badar Uddin Ahmed Kamran, Mahmudus Samad Chowdhury, Hafiz Ahmed Mojumdar and Syeda Zebun Nesa Haque, the central Awami League organizing secretary Advocate Misbah Uddin Siraj and the Sylhet divisional Sports Association Secretary Imran Ahmed Chowdhury also addressed the meeting among others.
Earlier, a team led by BCB president A H M Mustafa Kamal MP visited the Sylhet Divisional Stadium located at Laksatura in the city.
