Online int'l payment begins in Bangladesh Bank

Dhaka: Bangladeshi students and professionals will now be able to pay their membership, application, registration or admission fees online using international credit cards from Bangladesh.

Bangladesh Bank, in a circular issued on Thursday, said international credit cards may be used for online payment through internet of fees for professional membership application and registration, and admission and examination (TOEFL, SAT).

This can also be done through approved banks with virtual cards if the payee does not have an international card.

The circular said there is general permission for sending money to foreign institutions through approved dealer banks in the existing foreign exchange system (TT/MT/drafts).

The central bank has approved online payment to simplify the payment system for these fees and it would also help improve the surveillance system, it said.
