At least 1,600 families in Sharankhola of Bagerhat, who were affected by Cyclone Sidr in 2007, yesterday received new houses built by the Indian government, reports the daily star, titled as 'India hands over 1,600 houses to families'.
Food and Disaster Management Minister Abdur Razzaque and Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Rajeet Mitter handed over the holding numbers to the recipients at Rayenda Primary School in Bagerhat, said Golam Kibria, senior public relations officer of the food ministry.
The floors of the two-room tin houses are brick-built, he said. Twelve hundred similar houses will be handed over to the Sidr victims in Morelganj shortly, the official added.
